  • 2011 Photo Contest

Policy adopted by the Potton Heritage Association
    Board of directors

    1. The 2011 photo contest of the Potton Heritage Association (PHA) will take place during the Potton Multicultural Festival (PMF), which is on August 13th, 2011.
    2. The 2011 theme is: My best picture of Potton (showing our natural, cultural, landscape, architectural or archaeological Heritage).
    3. The contest is open to all, residents of Potton or not. Members of the Board of directors of the PHA and their families can participate, but are not eligible for any prices.
    4. Photos must be taken in the Township of Potton.
    5. Each candidate can submit a maximum of three (3) photos in printed format. Since space is limited at the Festival, the Association could reduce the number of photos per participant. In such a case, the Association will ask participants to choose their best picture for the contest.
    6. Printed photos must be in 8’’ x 10’’ or 8’’ x 12’’ format and can be in colour or black and white.
    7. On the back of the photo, each candidate must indicate where the picture was taken, his name, phone number, email and mailing address.
    8. All photos for the contest must be mailed, in printed format, to: Potton Heritage Association, C.P. 262, Mansonville, QC J0E 1X0 or submitted to Édith Smeesters, 3, chemin Maurice-Côté, Mansonville, QC J0E 1X0 at least one week before the PMF, i.e. by August 5th, 2011.
    9. Printed photos can be recuperated by contacting Édith Smeesters after the contest.
    10. The Association would like to have a digital copy of the photos in a jpg format (no more than 2 megs). These should also be sent at least one week in advance (i.e. August 5th, 2011) to the following email address: concoursphoto@patrimoinepotton.org or given on a USB key to Édith Smeesters. Each digital photo should be identified in the same way as the printed copy. The printed photos are essential, but the digital copies are optional.
    11. Three (3) winners will be chosen by the public at the PMF.
    12. The 3 winners will be offered a foam core mount of their winning photo, in view of participating in an exhibition in the fall (see details below).
    13. By submitting photos to the contest, candidates automatically authorize the Potton Heritage Association to use them for its website, publications or other exhibits; the authors will be clearly identified. No compensation will be given for this use.
    14. Candidates can participate in an exhibition that will take place at the Potton Memorial Library from October 2d to October 29, 2011. This event is organized by Jean-François Boulais and Édith Smeesters. The rules will be explained before September 15th.

Adopted unanimously by the Potton Heritage Association Board of directors on March 10th, 2011.

These people were consulted for these rules: Jean-François Boulais, Jean-Marc Bourgeois, Lorena Fraser, Angèle Hébert, Yolande Lamontagne, Ralf Milot, Serge Normand, Marcelle Roy, Frank & Christine Ruiz, Edith Smeesters and Hans Walser.

  • Missisquoi Nord Valley

The regional committee of the Missisquoi Nord Valley launched this week it’s new website : https://www.missisquoinord.com/indexe.php

You can discover backcountry pathways of exceptional natural beauty in our Valley, nestled by mountainside and gentle slopes. The access to the river and bike pathways and to the hiking trails linking the main villages of the valley to already existing networks belonging to partner associations are free of charge, except for the Sentiers de l’Estrie and the Réserve naturelle des Montagnes-Vertes networks, where fees apply. A new trail has been built by the Katimavik youth group last month and a new footbridge, to overpass the Missisquoi River, will be built by the end of June in Eastman. This project has been possible thanks to extraordinary dedicated people such as Suzanne Montel and Frank Ruiz (from the Potton Heritage Association) and thanks to the partnership between municipalities.

The kayac excursion is postponed to Sunday June 26th

The Potton Heritage Association invites you to discover part of this Valley by kayak on Saturday June 25th. Meet at 9 :30 a.m. if you have a kayak reservation at “La chouette” (Sorry, no more left, but you can try in Dunkin (450) 538-4052). The group will leave from chemin Fontaine between 9 :45 and 10 a.m. and will paddle down to La chouette. Bring your lunch and confirm with Jacques or Terry: (450) 292-3020 if you are joining.

Don’t forget to call for some activities that require reservations
