It is with great pleasure that we announce the classification of the Frontier Bridge as a heritage monument by the Quebec Minister of Culture and Communications, Mr. Mathieu Lacombe.
This good news puts an end to a long wait. It was in 2018 that Hans Walser then President of the GBMP group sent a request to the Minister of Culture and Communications to have the covered bridge classified. Some of our members were also members of the GBMP. The APPHA supported the GBMP in that request and was asked to pursue the work after the GBMP was dissolved.
We wish to thank everyone involved in the process of protecting this heritage treasure. Our deepest recognition goes to Hans Walser who never gave up in pursuit of his goal, to Michael Grayson, engineer, for clearly demonstrating the unique architecture of the bridge and to Pierre L’Heureux who in his first four years as vice-president of the APPHA has managed to dress a convincing portrait of the history of the bridge, its technological value and its importance in the economic development of the area.
Rest assured that the APPHA will continue to cooperate with all concerned partners through the steps that will follow this announcement.
